Subject: JD 9500 straw walker crank

Replaced the front crank on the combine. The collars for the walker bearings were already on the crank and everything went together fine. When we went to put the walker gearcase on the shaft did not come all the way to the out side of the gearcase. It is a good inch short. Is this normal ? Has anyone ever done this before ? Thanks for any help.
