West central Ohio | Had a local mechanic install new water pump on the engine and timing belt on my mid 90's 220 spra coupe. Marked everything for timing, but somehow got the camshaft out of time . VW water cooled gasoline engine. Motor number is 026.214555. Can anyone direct me to complete timing instructions for this engine? Not sure what timing marks to use. Two marks on camshaft gear. Crankshaft gear was removed for installation of water pump. Where should timing marks be positioned? Start with TDC on number one cylinder? Number one at rear of sprayer I assume? Good mechanic, just never got into VW before. Anyone know which model of VW car this engine was used in. Was told once it was used in the Golf. Just need good instructions for complete timing or someone to talk to. Would there be a service manual available for this?
