Subject: Follow-up on hydraulic vs. motor oil

Seaford, Delaware
Rafe,

In some pieces of construction and agriculture equipment, the OEM's will specify an engine oil for use in their hydraulics due to the extremely high pump pressures (some well in excess of 6000 PSI or greater). Engine oils (especially diesel) contain a greater degree of anti-wear additives than hydraulic fluids which only contain approximately 1-2% total additive systems with only a small percentage of this being anti-wear additives.
