Subject: Getting rid of alfalfa

Saskatchewan
Hey Guys,

A few months ago I asked how to get rid of alfalfa in an old hayfield that is being turned back into cultivated land.

I took off what little crop came this year (half alfalfa/half wheat).

I then sprayed a mix of Roundup and Banvel (Dicamba). 10 jugs of roundup and 1 jug of Banvel for 100 acres.

I waited about 2 weeks until the plants turned brown and then I ran the chisel plow over it once.

I am now running the chisel plow over it a second time to finish pulling up the plants that escaped the first pass.

Then the land will sit for the winter.

What is my best option for seeding hard spring wheat in the spring now that the land has been sprayed and worked in the fall?

1 - seed directly and spray 24D and Puma once the crop is up to kill wild oats and any remaining alfalfa

2 - spray pre seeding roundup to kill anything that starts growing after the winter and then spray Puma once the crop is up

3 - work the land once more in the spring before seeding to pull up any remaining plant roots and spray according to whatever problems come up
