Subject: Queston on Price per ton

Hey all! Looking for some advice and direction!

I grew up in the farming world, but it has been some time. Anyway, I recently bought a farm that has a 20 X 85 ft concrete stave silo. I am estimating that there is about 30 ft of 3 year old haylege / corn silage mixture. We managed to load the first load and the feed looked and smelled good for being 3 years old!

However, the buyer stated that his cattle ate the feed, just not as fast as was thought. We both agreed that it was most likely since it is a bottom unload silo and the first load contained the juices. We are in the process of loading the second load.

How would I calculate the tonage in the silo without weighing each time the truck is loaded? What would be a reasonable price to charge per ton?

I am not looking to make big money from this. I owe the buyer for seed, planting, and fertilizer of about 8 acres of soybeans. It was agreed to calculate the feed into this so really I am just making a paper trail for tax purposes.

Any suggestions are appreciated!
