Subject: Do corn roots matter???

Blue Earth, MN

Starting to dig and look at roots. What I'm finding is 95% of the corn fields in our area look the same. However, when I start looking at roots I see everything...poor root systems to massive root structures. Thus what I am wondering is how important are roots? Based on what I have seen so roots must not really matter.
