| Watching a farm show on RFDTV last saturday I saw a segement on haow some guys up in Canada were chopping their wheat straw right behind their combines and then applying anhydrous to it. They then put it in a pile to use for feeding dry beef cows over the winter. I have heard of people grinding round bales of straw and mixing it in with other feed. But if you chop it right behind the combine how do you get it to keep? It wont pack in the bunk, do they just pile it and then cover it? Anyone ever here or see of this ever beingdone?
I'm just trying to brainstorm cheap winter feeding options. I could add sugar beet pulp, distillers grain, corn silage or hay to improve the ration. I already have the bunker silo, feed wagon and sufficent bunk space for the cows.
Any imput is appreciated, thanks in advance
