I sent your post into a person who is in development on RR Alfalfa. Here is the response back:
Glad to hear the grower is pleased with the technology. The lack of weeds, I believe is due to the great stand establishment with RR alfalfa which is out-competing the weeds in the established stand. The conventional alfalfa was likely pretty weedy in year one which competed with the alfalfa. We’ve seen longer term effects of the weed competition in stands in the west where moisture was limiting
