Southern Illinois | Planted 350 acres May 3-5 and been raining since, looked at it today in the cold saturated soil and it has rotted. It shot a good tap root and then shot stem upward and ran out of gas. The upper stem is soft and the seed is rotten. This corn was planted in good soil conditions but temps were too cold with saturated soil. We had a 4-5 day window so I thought we could plant, this is really a screwed up year. This farming occupation isn't the best sometimes. | |
