East Kansas, DeSoto | In the forties our farm on was kind of a community center in a way. Had twin volley ball courts with lights and Friday eves farmers and their children came over to play volley ball and other games. While I was in the service I learned later my brothers pulled a dirty trick. At an afternoon gathering at our pond kind of a neighborhood picnic my brothers pulled a good one. They had buried a livestock tank in the pond upside down so there would be an air pocket. So while the neighbors were gathered one said " I will go for swim". All were good swimmers and dove in and underwater did not come back. A little later another took off and did not come back so third did same thing. Now crowd was desperate and was not there to know full details as it was never told to me except by a nephew. I guess my father would be charged with child abuse today for the licking they got.
