Subject: A Possible Path

There is a difference between 'talking the talk' and 'walking the walk.'

As I observe a greater reliance by the public to look for solutions from Government, partly because of a greater proportion of the public being dumbed down, and partly because of more material comforts amidst a variety of other factors, the outrage towards the taxpayers being ripped off from several directions may well again vaporize...while the internet offers instant communication most folks read and believe 'what they want to believe' AND fewer folks actually pay income taxes AND those of us directly affected by markets seem to become accustomed (whether long or short) to bi-weekly zingers causing a day or two whipsaw.....it seems we 'sort of get used to it'......which raises the question of the Stockholm Syndrome.

"In psychology, Stockholm syndrome is a term used to describe a paradoxical psychological phenomenon wherein hostages express adulation and have positive feelings towards their captors that appear irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims.[1][2] While uncommon, the FBI’s Hostage Barricade Database System shows that roughly 27% of victims show evidence of Stockholm syndrome.[3] The syndrome is named after the Norrmalmstorg robbery of Kreditbanken at Norrmalmstorg in Stockholm, in which the bank robbers held bank employees hostage from August 23 to August 28, 1973. In this case, the victims became emotionally attached to their captors, and even defended them after they were freed from their six-day ordeal."

Are we becoming emotionally attached to our Captors?

I recall times when a few pennies were important when selling a crop while today we are accustomed to 25 & 50 cent swings....While it sounds nice to believe we can change our present parties (Republican or Democrat) from the 'inside', I have my doubts. The Tea Party movement may well draw attention, I am a supporter, except more young people are needed AND I believe if Incumbent politicians were prohibited from speechifying as part of the movement, it would be a PLUS....regular folks must take leadership....if this fails, and I suspect it will, full blown socialism will be the next step and while irritating to many of us....America will most likely embrace it willingly and in some cases unknowingly (failing to read the legislation) ....Folks my age may or may not share my overall view...personally I feel we have become a pitiful bunch of followers...Patrick Henry types appear scarce.

Last night, while writing a yet unfinished newsletter (interrupted as I became irritated leading to violent thoughts and brain lock) my mind wandered back to the day when some citizens, upon hearing the Goldman story, would be racing to the hardware store for a quantity of hemp rope, gathering a few drums of tar whilst a few others would be scouting for appropriate trees & others gathering at the gilt decorated metal doors of their office to drag the squealing crooks into the street. We are more civil in mood and action. We have learned to expect abuse. We have become weak.

If I were a young soldier defending the Walls of Democracy in a far off land....today I would wonder "What am I defending? And Why?" and to those families who have endured the sacrifice of their children I would think they too would question "What has happened to our country?"
