Subject: explain to me using put options, please

was listening to mark gold on ag day this morning. he recommended not selling any 10' crops, but to buy puts. he said it would cost about 35 cents a bu.
i have been thinking about selling some nov. beans, sep. corn, and jul wheat because i feel they are at profitable levels. if i wanted to use puts...how would i do that. all i have ever done is forward contracted my sales...normally 30 bu to the acre on wheat and beans...2010 will be my first corn crop.

thanks.
