Cleveland, MS. Own small farm near Booneville, MS | The 4030 was the smallest of the "30" series tractors that JD introduced in the early '70s with the Sound Guard cabs. Basically, as an earlier poster said, it was a replacement for the 3020. The engine had about 52 more cubic inches and it was rated about 3-5 more hp than the 3020. The "30" series was pto hp rated as follows: 4030 - 80 hp, 4230 - 100 hp, 4430 - 125 hp, 4630 - 150 hp. Of course, most owners "turned them up" a bit (some did a lot) just as soon as they could without voiding the warranty (some probably sooner than that). Just remember that you are getting a 40+ year old piece of machinery and plan accordingly. Also, as was stated earlier, the "40," "50," and later series will give you more hp and, in most cases, a "beefier" tractor. |
