Subject: RE: Need help on installing concave in 9610

I installed a concave in my 9500 this year, but did have the grate out since it had been damaged and had to be completely removed from the combine to be fixed. I put the concave in before I installed the repaired grate, but it seems to me if you loosen the bolts at the back of the grate and raise it up out of the way you can manage to get the concave in. Concave installation is far, far from an easy job. I did it myself although I certainly do not recommend trying it yourself unless you can't get any help.

Once the grate is out of the machine, I would say it is a worse job installing it than the concave. I really would try everything possible to just raise the grate and leaving the back 2 bolts in place so you don't have to fight getting the grate back in place.

By the way, I hope you are installing a St. John's concave in the machine. I am sure you are finding out it is not an easy job, and if you can get a concave that lasts 2-2 1/2 times as long, it is the way to go.
