I think you have a vacuum pump to run the brake booster and other things on your PU. Diesel engines have no source of vacuum in the intake manifold like a gasoline engine, and since the truck was basically designed for a gas engine they add a vacuum pump on diesel PU's to get a source of vacuum. Sounds like either your vacuum pump is getting weak or else you have a leak or booster problems.
