Subject: Re: powerstroke turbo failed

Southeast Florida
Why do they say the turbo is bad? Is there metal in the oil? I had a 04 and that's the first thing out of there mouth the turbo is bad. I finally found a true mechanic not a parts swapper to work on the truck after being the turbo was bad at another dealership. There was nothing wrong with the turbo it had a pressure boost sensor and several other's not functioning properly, after replacing them and clearing the codes from the computer the truck an fine again. Yes it had the 6-speed and it defiantly idled a lot and if lugged down it would give problems but as long as you drove it like you stole it it'd run. The main problems I’ve been told is the head bolt are weak and if you want to run it hard or chip it up you must take the heads off and put studs on it. I've seen many of these engines with blown head gaskets. There is a program thru Ford on the 03-04's to buy them back for a trade up into a newer truck because they've had so many problems with this engine. Poor fuel mileage is one of the problems too. I was told by a Navistar dealership that the problem isn't the motor it's the programming, Ford decided to not buy the programming from Navistar and do their own and this is where the problem lies because Navistar doesn't have this problem with the VT-365 using the programming they designed with the engine. I would have to say the Navistar dealer is probably right because there’s many of these engines’ running around in school busses and power company trucks with Navistar on the hood problem free.
I can’t find the guy’s website but he has an F-250 6.0 Ford running in the low 10’s ¼ mile and his name is Domingo working at Maroone Ford in Ft Lauderdale. People bring there trucks from all over to get him to work on them. I’ve seen trucks in there from Michigan getting his custom power package 600+ hp when finished for these truck pullers.
