Subject: RE: Aluminum welding help

Lots of good advice, listen to them, go find a GOOD shop, not just one that dabbles in trailer repair.

We've welded aluminum with our wire welder, have to change the liner and get a spool of wire and some argon. Spool guns work the best, but we didn't have one, keep the cord as straight as possible and be alert for nesting.

Be very careful with your heat settings. Have something similar to play with, also preferbaly have a replacement piece to use one you've screwed up the first one.

As you are trying to weld watch the puddle. Just when you think it is about right and are starting to get some confidence and think this isn't so bad....you have done F'd up and before you can get away from it the puddle will be on the floor in the process of cooling down.

:) That is the voice of experience. For what it's worth I'm a pretty decent welder on steel, mig and stick, but aluminum is a whole different animal.

Good luck
Ray
