The 8070s were not as tough as the smaller models. They were prone to the engine problems that you mentioned --- maybe they had a slightly different engine.

HOWEVER, the 8050 and smaller sizes are nearly indestructable. The powershift transmission has excellent durability. We have 18,000 hrs on our 8050 and have never had a trans or clutch problem other than to fix a few cables that were worn through and the park brake.

The cab is better than anything else of that era, and the hyd system is PFC -- also superior for that era.
