Hagen Brothers farms,Goodrich ND | I agree on the 80's thing. My main farming tractors are a 84 Steiger Panther,85 Steiger Puma and an 87 JD 4450. Good reliable tractors that have quiet cabs and good HVAC systems with no computer board electronics that cost $500 a pop to replace. My combine is a 78 model with quiet cab, good HVAC and no extra electronics. To turn on the unload auger, you pull a steel lever that sprouts from the side of the seat base. Connected to this lever is a little steel cable that connects to the unload belt tightner. In 28 years of use, this thing has never failed to work. I read on the combine talk site where some guy with a newer machine says" I turn on the unload switch and nothing happens except I get a XXX error code on the computer screen, what can the problem be ?" Makes me wonder just why the heck a computer had to get involved in a simple operation like starting the unload auger. |
