Dodge and Ford share the larger center on the 8 lug rims. Chevy's are smaller = don't fit Ford or Dodge. 16.5 tires are beadless and more prone to opening up the bead if run low and side-stressed. You can go either 16 or 17 and still get the same diameter tires as 16.5 in a beaded tire (less likely ot lose the bead and go flat). Several times over the years I rolled a 16.5 front tire on a hard turn and seperated the bead enough to go flat - usually they went down like a fast leak, but once it heard it poof as the air left - not fun when you are running late to work.
