One big advantage to strip till is that it leaves the residue on the surface. Heavy corn residue incorporated into the soil profile sucks N out as it breaks down, generally increasing total applied N requirements and releasing CO2 at a time when there is no growing leaf canopy over the top to use it in photosynthesis.
