High Springs, Florida
Some of the early JD 950 "Jap Tracs" have very poor cooling systems. We have an '81 that confounded the dealer. They had about 3 of them with the same symptoms, called in a factory tech. They ended up replacing the cooling fan with one of a different pitch. Well, it sort of solved the problem. I think it just needs a higher capacity radiator.

We also have one of those 820 3 cyl. diesels. Hydraulic system seems fine for the power steering and 3pt. Don't know if it would handle a remote cylinder or front end loader though. It has an open center system. 1020 and up is closed center.

Was at one of the local dealers a few Saturdays ago. Someone was looking at one of the new 5000 series. Salesman told him to stay away from the 5 cylinder models as they were "too loud".
