| The opener to which you are referring is more commonly known as the Barton. It was designed for no-till in heavy stubble. However, it gauges depth from the packer wheel in back, which creates plenty of issues when seeding in moist to wet conditions. It has no separate in-furrow firming device, which is another serious shortcoming. Seed depth is also more inconsistent than desired, due to the ~ 45-degree angle of furrow (seeds stick at various places, rather than falling to the bottom). I agree that the Flexi-coil carts are great. Expertly engineered, and very user friendly. Despite all its flaws, the JD single-disc opener (50, 60, 90-series) is the best we've got in North America for a no-till opener. As pointed out, the 1895 is capable of separate fertilizer placement. |
