Subject: RE: Question about MacDon Draper platforms?

No matter what anyone else thinks, believes says or does that is pro draper heads used to harvest soybeans, the bottomline is "draper heads were NEVER designed to harvest on the ground for prolonged amounts of time!" I don't care how many modifications you make, flex wings you add or bolt on flex cutter bars you invest in, they will never be as good as a true flex head. Firstly, they lack a true flexible cutter bar. Second, they do not have the electronic or hydraulic terrain compensation capapbility when operating close to the ground in order to react slightly faster than realtime reaction, above ground maybe when using sensing wands. Any combine harvesting expert will tell you that you have to have a truely INTEGRATED FLEXIBLE cutter bar to be successful!!! "Flex wing" is convenient for terraces and the LOVE cutting system that Honey Bee is adding to their draper heads at New Holland's expense in order for them to compensate for their short coming is simply that, an add-on. Besides, why pay more for less? A 30 foot flex wing draper from MacDon cost more than the 35-foot hydraflex from Deere...go figure! You people are getting hosed for thinking a draper head for anything other than straw type crops to harvest off the ground. I am speaking from lots of experience with draper heads too. They're great in wheat barley, etc that is standing or partially lodged. But, spending the entire soybean season with a draper on the ground will be the most irratating experience you've had. Save your money.
