I know that on their Harvestmore heads Young's Custom Ag Service used fingers in the center of the auger on the first dozen or so production models but for this year they were going to the flighting extensions instead. I can see an advantage to the full fingered auger in tough beans but they also add alot of potential maintance and repairs to a head.
