Subject: RE: Cummins to produce light duty/high-performance diesels

I don't understand Daimler/Chrysler. They seem to be a good example of a "world corporation" in disaray. They own Mercedes which has been making diesels almost since the diesel was invented and they make them for applications from cars to semi-trucks. And they own Detroit Diesel which was purchased through Freightliner, which D/C also owns, and is making engines for application in the North American market in Freightliner, Sterling and American LaFrance vehicles. In addition to all that, they already market a diesel powered Sprinter in the US, if I'm not mistaken. Where that engine comes from I don't know, must be Mercedes. So with all of that diesel experience "in-house", why in the world does a Dodge pickup truck have a Cummins engine? Is it all about cost and marketability?
