Subject: RE: Chisle Plow.......Which one?

I try very hard to avoid buying anything from the big green, but I do have a JD 2410 chisel plow. Most of their past tillage equipment wasn't spectacular, but I think that they finally have something good with the 2410 series. I think you should really take a look. (I really hate to brag up a JD product, but I am happy with it!)

Mine has 12" spacing, which might be a little extreme. We go about 6-8" deep and pull 24' with 360 hp. We use ours after manure application, so the ground can get pretty slippery. Traction is our main limitation, but we aren't overpowered in heavy soil.

When we fist got it, we took off two shanks and pulled it with a 9230 CIH. I do not reccomend doing that, it was a pretty slow ride with lots of wheel slip.

I would prefer the JD vs. the CaseIH. I don't like the leveling/raising mechanism on the CIH, and the hitch is really wide.

The floating hitch/swivel wheels are nice, but probably not really necessary. I don't have them on my DMI field cultivator, and have good results with that.

Whilrich looks good, but my cousins had a new one and pulled the frame apart. They may have since improved the weak places.

Good luck!
