I would stick with the vertical design, for high forage rations they cannot be beat. chopping long hay is no problem for vertical machines, whereas horizontal wagons tend to have the hay wrap around the augers. another bonus, in my opinion, is simplicity. the verticals have only 2-3 gear boxes, depending on one or two augers. as long as you service them properly, they should give you years of trouble free use. in the horizontals, there is a whole wack of chains and sprockets and bearings that could cause trouble. the real only downside to the vert. wagons, besides price, is power usage. we run a Loewen 502cuft machine on our JD 6400, and it really works the thing in high gear, but we have run our JD 2130 on the same wagon, but our wagon has a high/low gearbox for when we need it. I would recommend 100PTO Hp for a wagon that size, 85 is a bit small.

another option for the vertical wagons is a chopper in the rear which can really help chop long hay and also, apparently can help the mixer take the place of the bale processer, although i have never seen one work.

good luck, and be sure to try before you buy.
any other questions, ask and i will try to answer.
