Before you make that conclusion perminent, check out Jays area rainfall amounts and climate conditions. Also note the crops he's taking out and putting in. Have you ever used that rotation? It takes exactly what Jay is doing to get the results he needs.

Here's a couple pics of my plowing last fall taking out strawberries and putting in turf type tall fescue. The plow is about the fifth time over the field and I have just gotten started. The soil is so compacted after strawberries, I have to dry plow it to attempt to return some reasonable tilth for the small seeds of grass.
