Subject: RE:Is nitrogen Special?

SW Saskatchewan
Back in the 60,s when a custom combine fellow told me about accumulators, there was a certain "Mystique" about the behavior of nitrogen when subject to compression and decompression- something about it being more "absorbent" of shocks than for example, straight air.

I know Nitrogen has a larger molecule (according to the tire people) and should be less subject to loss into the oil but just what is the the reason for nitrogen being the gas in an accumulator?
