Subject: Running heifers by themselves

eastern sd
I have a new pasture that I am looking at using to breed heifers this summer. I've never done this before and I'm wondering if they will be ok by themselves or if I should have some old cows with them. I am concerned about them being flighty and want to get out. There's no other cattle around them and the fence will be a decent 4 bar barbed wire. They will be about 8 miles away from home, does anybody have any experience with this or can give any advice?
