| So I would get with WIldlife Refuge and make sure what started fire. If lighting, it's a act of God. No luck in getting any reimbursed. However if brushing beating and no fire crew pumper following them or no fire lines then you have recourse. Also check and see if they ok'd county with a burn permit.
I've been burned out a few times from neighbor truck starting a fire. It did us more good than harm. I just had to rotate pastures and start later grazing the next year. BLM has also burned me out and FS. However last one BLM came in and rebuilt my fence braces which was good of them. With that burn I was able to rent rangeland drills from state and I drilled grass.
Need to check with your CPA but last I knew if you have to liquidate cows I think you can defer money for three years because of fire. Also check at FSA office for disaster money to help you for short term feed.
I've trucked cows over 250 miles for pastures, it's just allowed us to keep our cows. Don't think I'd do it again.
Might be such a thing you could sell some down, hold money and buy back in three years when this tanks. Honestly get them to rebuild your fences to your specs. Not wildlife fence unless you want that type. Look to them reseed if needed. And tell them to pound sand if they want you to hold off for minimum of 2 years grazing tell them you'll keep cows off if they keep all wildlife off your place.
Every fire I ever had was a benefit to us, always have to have a plan in place because it's coming again. | |
