Sounds pretty miniscule but adds up over 12 months. Older farmer here drives 5 miles into town every morning for coffee, 2 eggs and toast. Prob cost $7000/year. A few local 40 year olds smoke a pack a day and slam a dozen beer as well. Don't even want to know what that costs over the year. They look like their over 60.
For a lot of people, these are social habits and one way to get out of the house and interact with people. Then again, some folks never learned how to cook, and don't want to try to learn either. I know of a widower in his upper 80s and his wife did all of the cooking and he only eats out, eats prepackaged snacks, and a few things heated in a microwave. He won't even fry an egg.
But he really enjoys visiting with other people and eating out gets him out of his apartment and he can afford the meals. |
