NW Washington | From here, it is hard to say what is going on with your plant, but overwatering kills many more house plants than the lack of water. I use a weak dose of Miracle-Gro once a month for our house plants. House plants getting "root bound" is another common problem, so if water runs out of the pot quickly when you add water, you probably need to repot the plant and prune the roots.
Here is a cut and paste from the web on managing your philodendron.
"To care for a philodendron, place it in a spot with bright, indirect light, water when the top inch of soil is dry, allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, provide a humid environment by misting regularly, and fertilize once a month during the growing season with a diluted liquid fertilizer; avoid overwatering and direct sunlight which can burn the leaves.
Key points for philodendron care:
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal; avoid direct sunlight.
Watering: Water when the top inch of soil is dry, allowing it to dry out completely between waterings.
Soil: Use well-draining potting mix.
Humidity: Philodendrons prefer high humidity, so misting regularly is beneficial.
Fertilizing: Feed with a diluted liquid fertilizer once a month during the growing season.
Temperature: Warm room temperature is best.
Cleaning: Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust."
