Northern Illinois | I was very lax about pricking my finger to test my glucose level. Meaning I was not testing. I had assumed that a person needed to be on insulin to get a CGM because of the cost. It was mentioned here that is not the case anymore. Searching there are a couple companies that offer CGM without a doctor's order and the cost was not prohibitive. I got the Stelo from Dexcom. A months supply ( 2 ) of the patches cost approximately $100.
It has worked very well so far. (3 days)
It constantly sends your reading to a smartphone. You need to download the app. You do need to have your smartphone near you. Dexcom says 20 feet and I believe them as I do lose signal if I leave my smartphone somewhere.
My A1c has been higher than I would have liked but always in a range that is not dire. So I was content.
What I am hoping having a CGM does is keep me honest. I mean before I would say I can have that. I am ok. I am seeing that while my A1c may not have been terrible I was having spikes. So I hope to eliminate those spikes.
If a CGM is something you are considering I would recommend looking into it. $1200 a year is a lot but in the grand scheme of things I can justify it if I lower my A1c. | |
