The burden to overturn the consensus view is on the contrarian. Doing so is certainly possible. The change in how peptic ulcers form is an example. We now look for bacteria, and no longer blame stress. But that change didn't happen overnight, it didn't happen without persuasive evidence and reasoning, and it certainly didn't happen because of a dodgy Internet meme.
In other words, if you have a solid scientific argument that contradicts accepted science, you have a good chance of changing minds and advancing knowledge. The problem with most climate cranks is they don't know squat about the subject. Their specious claims are rejected out of hand because they've been found to be false many times. | |
