Subject: RE: Hay burning

Why do you say it could not have been the rain. Being we don't generally get rain in the hay season in this goofy place known as central California. I only have seen hot hay several time. Once the cows got in the barn and peed on it for days as they eat it. Not a big amount to start with and not much left. The other was in winter, and a storm ripped a 30 x 40 chunk of roof off in very wet spell. Both time the hay was to hot pick up without gloves. So, I figured not too far from igniting.

The only barn fire I know of locally was big bales of alfalfa. Baled at the same moisture as the small squares of alfalfa.
