NW Wisconsin | Common practice when dealing with tracked construction undercarriages. Clean up the end with a burr. Get some pipe that just fits in the hole. Weld her up completely full. Not so much for the strength. You want as much heat transfer to the bolt as possible. It also helps to weld a large nut on the pipe to gently rattle back and forth with a impact.
On the bright side. You got plenty of room to work. Your not on your back welding over your head... Lol
