How are you guys getting on back in the Midwest with the lamb market? Definitely a crap shoot up here. Sold 130# and brought 1.5#. This pre Christmas-January is generally our sweet spot for fats. Feeders sounded like they were having a hard time holding 2-2.25$

I took a gamble and ran some Ill-De-France rams on a portion of the herd this year. What a JOKE!! In all our years of doing this we have never had such inconsistent lambs. Lambed in March and took a massive 535# of feed to get them up to 130#. Cracked corn/SBM/mineral mix. 25% we’re ready in august, another 25% in late October and the remaining 50% just now topped 130. 9 months old on the last group.

Our poly ewes and Texel rams have those march lambs up there in about half the time. Generally sell the march group in august and a fall lambing group around January. Those I’ll-De-France are out the door for us!! Not sure how the Midwest guys manage with them. Sound like they are really popular
