My thoughts are you won’t gain all that much from going to trit. Another possibility is driiling the rye or trit really late this fall so it is slower to get going next spring. I drilled some December 1st one year into moist ground. The seed swelled so it vernalized, but was probably two weeks behind the rest of the rye.
