Subject: Earlage Economics?

SE Indiana
We are more than likely going to run out of bin space for our corn. River markets and E plants are running -45 to -50 basis for fall delivery. I have plans to put up a 150hd finishing barn in the next few months and switch to tmr. have a 20 acre field of what looks to be 200ish bu corn that hasn’t hit black layer yet and a friend of mine is setting up his class with a KP to run earlage.

He wants $8/ton to chop. I can rent a 9’ bagger for $1000per 200’ bag and a 9’ by 200’ bag for another $800. I figure that comes out to be about 77cents/bu to store 4000bu. Seems like a pretty expensive way to store feed.

How much more feed will an acre of earlage make vs 200bu (11200lbs) shelled corn?
Is a bunker the only economical way to store haylage/earlage or am I just being overcharged for the bag and bagger?
Should I just sell whatever I can’t bin and Stick with corn and pellets??
