I've been getting along great with feeding rye baleage but I would like to get a better idea of its actual nutritionalvalue. What technique or method is best for testing this enclosed inline-wrapped hay? Will a sample from 2-3 bales give a decent representation of all bales from that cutting? thanks

IIRC the suggested sampling is 15 to 20 samples using your coring tool. (slap a patch on the wrap after you're done w that bale)

If you have a lot of 25 to 200 bales I'd use that number.

If you have 200 to a few thousand bales I would increase your sampling number say at around 5 per 100 and then mix the sample to take your sample that you send in.

The risk you have with only sampling 2 or 3 bales is - - - are those bales representative of the whole lot?

(ie lower fertility (headlands), higher fertility (headlands), saline areas and on and on - - the list is NOT short!)
