I like bedding with a mix. A bale of bean straw to 2-3 balez of cornstalks. The bean straw stores outside much better. Keeps a firmer bed pack and keeps the animals much cleaner be it cattle or hogs. I don't think it's any harder on a baler then cornstslks and definitely pick up less dirt in the bales then raking cornstalks. That said I will not rake beanstraw, just windrow from the combine
