West Central Iowa | There is one more thing it might be prudent to at least look at while you are in this far, and we always do it when we have these tractors split in my shop and that is pull the PTO clutch and inspect it. When you have the input planetary out you are about 80-90% of the way there to get the PTO clutch out. Before you start removing it, pry the PTO clutch drum back and forth to see how much end play the drum has. It is pretty common for the bearings to get loose and allow the drum to wobble around and the shaft seal rings will wear bad grooves into the inside ID of the clutch drum bore where the seal rings sit. These seal rings direct engagement oil in to the clutch piston. Also the shaft o-ring will leak oil past them and it will leak out the shaft retaining plug. If the drum ID is worn there are some rebuilt drums and new aftermarket available or if you have a good machine shop they can bore and sleeve your drum. You will also want the replace the 3 o-rings (R31378) on the shaft and reshim the bearings/shaft adjustment. We always replace the shaft retaining plug and snap ring also and pretty much shim it as tight as you can get it. | |
