North Central, NE | Looking at doing some upgrading. Viewed lots of threads here on AT. I'm upgrading out of the stone age from 50-series soundgard. We don't buy tractors very often.
Regarding high hour 8000R or 8000RT tractors. Talking 8-9000+ hours. What is the reliability pattern on those as they age out?
We're small time farm. Looking at trying to swing for a newer (by our standards) 2-track. Wouldn't mind a Challenger - but dealer support 100 miles away largely rules that out for me.
Local dealer has a high hour RT that has had a new motor and transmission in last 2k hours. Approaching 10k hours on entire tractor. This would be a 2010 machine just before full-blown Tier 4. But I've heard that even the late EGR only with no DPF can still give problems.
If the major components (motor/trans) are replaced - do the rest of the tractors hold up in the R/RT series? If you have any experience, I'd love to hear it.
I'm comparing it to a 7500 hour 8420T. 8420T hasn't had any major components replaced yet. I know usually the 8.1 and 16-speed are usually pretty reliability out to 10k hours - but it's still a risk. The 8335RT with motor/transmission replaced really isn't much higher than 8420T by the time I replace tracks on 8420T (which it needs).
I don't really need the power of the 8335RT. We don't trade tractors often and are probably only going to put on 250 hrs/yr in small farm.
Appreciate any experience you can share. Good luck with harvest, everyone.
