Subject: RE: Harvesting field efficiency

What is goal? I want to harvest as fast as I can. But field/machine loss, operator comfort, machine stress all factor in. Where I increased efficiency without increase in negatives was a grain cart.
Suddenly combine not stopping harvest. Driving empty to boxes, sitting unloading, driving empty to stop point to restart. Grain cart you unload on go, when, where needed. Rarely discharge over un harvested crop so stop, turn out, unload stopped. *but still not long drive 2 ways*
No increase in field loss, maybe slight decrease as combine going slightly slower, but getting much more done a hour. Combine driver needing to stop to take a leak. “You could use a bottle” ;)
To me efficiency is leaving potential hazzard areas till last. That wet spot the round before felt soft, next to trees, you saw branches, had someone walk thru, remove what they found. You know there will be some, hopefully smaller then pencil, dry, brittle. But just in case do last. *unless it will be dark*
Wasting time to fully empty hopper before going thru damp area. Even if 3 dumps of 100 bu each right after each other.
It’s possible it’s more efficient to zebra strip a field at harvest. *i do that for tillage. *. But with grain cart needs. I don’t see it.
