The sprocket on the right side of the feeder house only changes the speed of the chain inside the feeder house
This is correct. Often the lower sprocket consists of two different sized sprockets. Since this sprocket is the driver and the top fixed size sprocket is the driven, using the larger sprocket will cause the feeder house chain to run faster than if the driver was the small sprocket. This would change the relative speed of the feeder house chain only compared to the rest of the head. Making just that change would not affect the speed of the auger.
Changing a sprocket on the auger drive itself would change the auger speed in relation to the rest of the head.
