Probably not more opener travel, but the whole row unit will have more travel. Here’s a guy that did a good job of explaining it. I am familiar with Case row units, maybe others are different

I don't know about Case planters, but JD planters do not have more vertical row unit travel with long vs short parallel arms. The reason being the stops are made different to compensate for the difference in arm length. I totally agree, IF everything else were equal, the long arms would obviously allow for more row unit vertical travel.

JD designed the stops differently on the long arms to limit the DEGREES these arms can travel from horizontal vs the short arms so that the vertical travel of the row unit is exactly the same between the two.

The reason for the longer arms is to allow additional physical clearance for certain row cleaner attachments, etc. Also on 15 in. "splitter" planters that have all the units attached to one bar they alternate long and short arms to "stagger" the row units for improved residue flow.

The only way to gain more vertical row unit travel on a JD planter equipped with long arms would be to modify the stops to allow more degrees of travel from horizontal.

Edited to add

Swenney79 hit the nail on the head with his last paragraph as to the reason there is no difference in vertical travel between long and short parallel arms. Stops are different.
