Subject: RE: Replacing the auger tube on an 8", 62' Westfield auger

SW Illinois
we did a 10x70 wheat heart for a landlord. auger was only a year old and the tube was worn out. found out dealer didn't tighten the nut on top bearing which lead to failure. auger was gone and replaced with a new one of a different brand before the next harvest. dealer/manufacture did make it right.

anyway, we removed the flighting in peices. it was just too long, heavy and awkward to leave together. the tubes were left together and lifted off the running gear. New tube was assembled on the ground and attached to the running gear as one. took to loaders to maneuver correctly. Took three of us a whole day to do it.

I've replaced tubes and replaced flighting, and I don't plan to do either one again. seems like once one gets replaced the other is only a year behind, then you have more money in the parts than a new one would have cost, and you've assembled it twice.
