Subject: What does "idle rpm" really mean in tractors?

Chebanse, IL.....

I was looking at Tractor Data specs for JD 4020D. JD has a couple of different max rpm readings.
They show "rated rpm" as 2200 rpm
"idle rpm" as 600-2500 rpm
"operating rpm" as 1500-2200 rpm

Why do they call the 600-2500 range as an "idle"?

As I recall, the foot throttle setting on a 4020 will push rpms up to 2500...correct? I think it was meant for higher road travel speed. I'm sure no one (else) on AgTalk ever used the foot throttle in the field when plowing or other field ops. Right?
